Childhood Caries Management: A Journey from Simplicity to Complexity

Introduction

This 2-day interactive course guides participants through the full scope of childhood caries management from early, non-invasive strategies to complex full coverage restorations.

Description

This comprehensive and interactive 2-day course takes participants on a complete journey through the management of childhood caries, covering the full spectrum from early, non-invasive preventive strategies to advanced restorative and endodontic solutions, ultimately reaching fullcoverage options using esthetic crowns to restore both function and appearance in children’s smiles. Emphasis is placed on accurate diagnosis & thoughtful clinical decision-making, enabling dentists to select appropriate treatments based on lesion severity, tooth prognosis, parents, & child behavior.

Day 1

Is fully theoretical, offering in-depth discussions on diagnosis, case-based treatment planning, and clinical decision-making across the entire spectrum of caries severity. Topics will include minimally invasive approaches such as SDF, ITR, and SMART restorations, as well as advanced techniques like rotary endodontics, LSTR for non-vital teeth, post placement in anterior teeth, and full-coverage crown options including zirconia and BioFlx. Real clinical cases highlighting both successes and failures, will be used to sharpen judgment and practical understanding.

Day 2

Is fully hands-on, allowing participants to watch live demonstrations and practice key procedures using simulator models. Practical training will cover:

  • Restoration of primary teeth using RMGI and injectable composite
  • Vital and Non- vital pulp therapy in priamry teeth
  • Rotary instrumentation in pediatric endodontics
  • Lesion Sterilization and Tissue Repair (LSTR)
  • Intra-canal posts for broken anterior primary teeth
  • Preparation and placment of zirconia crowns ( anterior & posterior )
  • Placement of BioFlx crowns for posterior teeth.

By the end of the course, participants will gain the knowledge, hands-on skills, and confidence to manage childhood caries at every stage—from prevention to complex restorative and endodontic care—while learning from real clinical scenarios, including treatment failures, to refine judgment and improve long-term outcomes.

Objectives

By the end of this two-day course, participants will be able to:

  1. Diagnose carious lesions accurately and make informed treatment decisions based on severity, tooth prognosis, and child behavior.
  2. Apply minimally invasive techniques such as (SDF), (ITR), and SMART restorations to manage early-stage caries.
  3. Restore primary teeth using RMGI and injectable composites to achieve optimal function and esthetics.
  4. Perform advanced non vital pulp therapy, including rotary instrumentation for pulpectomy and (LSTR) for non-vital teeth.
  5. Rebuild broken anterior teeth using intra-canal post techniques to enhance stability and long-term retention.
  6. Select and place pediatric esthitc crowns effectively—including tips and step-by-step protocols for zirconia and BioFlx.
  7. Enhance clinical judgment through case-based discussions that highlight both successful outcomes and management of failures.
